Event Details:
Start your engines BBB driving enthusiasts, the first Saturday Drive is about to hit the road!
June 6th will be a Saturday drive hosted by Maschkes and Cannistras to Greendale, Wisconsin.
We will meet at the Kwik Star Gas Station, I-90 exit 1, IL Rt. 75, east side of the interstate (16040 Oakfield Pkwy, S. Beloit IL) at 8:00 a.m. for a prompt 8:15 departure. A two-hour drive on secondary roads will take us to Greendale where we will meet our tour director.
Greendale is one of three “greenbelt” communities built under the New Deal program during the Great Depression. While wandering through the 88-year-old city Coleen will relate the fascinating story of this unique self-contained community. Opened for occupancy in 1938 some homes are still owned by relatives of the original inhabitants.
After our tour, lunch will be at the Panther Pub & Eatery followed by time to browse the shops in the historic village center.
In the afternoon a guided tour of nearby Trimborn Farm has been arranged and will be led by Christian. This historic homestead was established in 1847 to produce lime. It has subsequently been a dairy farm, a sod farm, an air strip, and a riding stable. The Milwaukee County Historical Society now manages the property.
As we proceed toward home, dinner is planned for Mama T’s Italian Eatery in Elkhorn.
Morning and afternoon tour guides have been arranged at a modest cost to have the best possible experience at these two unique historic locations. The cost for Greendale is $10/person payable to the tour guide. The cost of Trimborn is $11/person payable to Roxann or Rich. RSVPs are appreciated. Please call or text one of the hosts to RSVP .
